My first foray into archaeology sadly didn’t include crystal skulls or running from giant rolling balls, but it did include a hugely satisfying day, interesting conversation, several midge bites and 5 litres of drinking water. I’m not sure if I was digging a chimney or flue but apparently that makes me the same as the experts. Hard work? yes – satisfying? immensely. Would I do it again? Only if I remember the midge repellent.
